Learn about the Chinook and other local northwest tribes and communities from a tribal elder. Discover the history of the indigenous people before and after the European invasion. Understand how disease, occupation and an unfair reservation system affected the Chinook Nation and does to this day. Explore the culture, trading and everyday life of these peoples of the river and sea, building their sturdy and ornate plankhouses and canoes. In this region, food was plentiful and house societies were formed with strong leadership based on hereditary status. Sam will offer songs and drumming to glimpse into how these emblematic sounds connect with the ancestors.
