Adult Family Home Training


This course is required training for those who wish to become licensed as Adult Family Home (AFH) providers in Washington State. Some of the topics covered:

  • Introduction to the concepts and principles of management that are essential in the formation and running of an AFH business.
  • Roles and responsibilities of a licensed provider, the licensing process, business operations of the home, staff management, resident care issues and resident rights.
  • Includes video and instruction of the inspection processes required for licensing.

AFH Administrator Class Information
Format: Classroom lecture, computer lab and guest speakers
Days: Thursday & Friday
for 3 consecutive weeks
Times: 8:00 am - 5:30 pm
Certificate:

Yes, upon successful completion of program. No expiration date

Washington State Prerequisite: Students must have English and Math proficiency. Recommended level for English is 6th grade (ABE 3) and for Math it’s a 4th grade level (ABE 2). An assessment test must be taken prior to the start of class.

AFH Orientation


This one-day course will provide an overview of the information needed for a prospective AFH licensee. 

  • Requirements to meet so they can provide services and care to residents in a licensed home setting. 
  • Overview of the process each prospective provider will need to follow before applying for their AFH license.
  • A short amount of time is allotted for questions and answers.
  • Next orientations open for registration: January 15 and March 12, 2019 
AFH Orientation Class Information
Format: Classroom lecture
Times: 9 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.*
Certificate: Yes, expires after 1 year

Classes are held in the downtown Vancouver, WA location at Clark College Economic & Community Development.

* Students will not be admitted into the class 30 minutes after instruction begins.
