Explore the powerful properties of color in art, design and the environment. Train your eye to recognize, describe, and identify the subtle, perplexing nature of color relationships. Sharpen your skills through exercises with collage, sculptural paper reliefs and painting techniques. We will take inspiration from the color theory teachings of Josef Albers. Using hands on processes will allow you to observe and reckon with the paradoxical nature of color. Some of the concepts covered in this course will include designing the color wheel and exploring various color harmonies from theory, such as complementary, monochromatic, and triadic structures. Study color saturation, and warm and cool color contrast. Supply list posted on class webpage.
