Garland worked for nearly 40 years for the State of California and County of Los Angeles as a Social Worker, Assistant Psychologist, Auditor, Human Services Administrator and Date System Manager.
He retired in 2004 and started to teach older adults at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Cal State Long Beach. He moved to Vancouver in 2008 and started work as Media helper and instructor for Clark College Mature Learning. He was the instructor for such classes as the 20th Century, Genetics, Human Evolution and other classes. He has degrees in Public Administration and Psychology. He is especially interested in Science fields of Genetics and in the history of humans. He recently spent three weeks on an Archaeological tour of Ireland.
